The story of B&J is the story of one man‘s faith in his ability to create something of permanence and value.
Founded in the summer of 1942 by Emil Bech Jensen and partner Roy Barnes, B&J today is the unquestioned industry leader in tyre buffing pro-ducts for the retread industry. B&J Manufacturing revolutionised the tyre buffing process by introducing a system using blades rather than tacks, the now famous B&J Rocket Rasps. Not satisfied with resting on their laurels, B&J continued to be at the forefront of new blade technology, introducing names that became synonymous with retreading such as Saturn, Apollo, Gemini and Eagle.
How it all began …
1927 - E.B. Jensen emigrates as an 18 year old from Denmark to the U.S.A.
1927-1941 - He experiences the hardship of finding a job, not speaking the language nor having any family support. He works as car mechanic, taxi driver, in restaurants as dishwasher, as truck driver and salesman.
1941 - With a trade credit of 700 USD, he establishes the E.B. Jensen Company in Chicago/Illinois
1941 - Tack-type rasp is the best available rasp in buffing tyres at that time.
1942 - Roy Barnes and E.B. Jensen initiate the development of a new rasp type and found the B&J Manufacturing Company. Six months later, Barnes withdraws from the venture and E.B. Jensen continues on his own.
1945 - following 3 years of research and development the first new rasp and blade (Regular rasp with Std blades) is available to the tyre industry thus creating revolutionary methods in tyre buffing.
1956 - The first Jet Refill is developed. From now on, B&J Rocket Rasp and Blades become the standard in retreading.
April 16, 1988 - E.B. Jensen becomes member of the ”Tyre Retreading and Repairing – Int. Hall of Fame”
